Amla Soup

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 Amla (gooseberries)
  • 1/2 tbsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/4 tbsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup cooked dal (lentils)
  • 1-2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2-3 dry red chilies
  • Fresh coriander (for garnish)

Method:

  • Grind amla with black pepper, cumin, green chilies, turmeric and salt into a fine purée.
  • Mix the purée with water and cooked dal until smooth.
  • Heat ghee in a pot, add dry red chilies and curry leaves, and sauté for a few seconds.
  • Pour the amla-dal mixture into the pot and stir well.
  • Add fresh coriander and let the soup heat gently.
  • Switch off the flame just before it starts boiling.
  • Serve hot and enjoy
